Why does everybody finish the date?

I've been reading a ton of these stories over the last several days.  I don't get.  You go on a date with someone and they pull out the crazy but instead of bolting everyone stays to finish their meal and at the end splits the check like that'll show em.  Hey, she stabbed me but in her defense it was a pretty nice restaurant and I didn't want to be rude.  Please explain.

I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that we're simply not present for a lot of these situations. Sure, it's easy to say, "I would've totally left if that was how it went," but for most of us, it's a little difficult to just up and leave, likely due to politeness or perhaps fear of inciting further negative actions on the part of the person from whom we wish to flee. It's easy to shake our heads at certain behaviors, but until we experience those behaviors first-hand, it might be harder to imagine why some people stay and some can just up and leave a bad situation.

It seems like there are two things to point out here...

1) I suppose it depends on the severity of the craziness.  If it's dangerous or life threatening then it would be beneficial to get the hell up and leave. As for the just plain stupid things like being loud, obnoxious, rude, degrading... I'd stay just to either make sure they got it in the end or so I could tell my friends about the idiot I accidentally went on a date with. :p

2) People probably don't have the gall to just get up and walk away or they may be afraid to!  Some people honestly tie the craziness to violence and just decide to hope for the best if they comply with the nutjob.  This is stupid.  Other people are being polite and deciding to end things peacefully.  

Honestly, from my point of view... just get up and walk off.  If anything seriously crazy goes down then there's always someone you could call to help(i.e. friends, police, etc). I believe pepper spray and brass knuckles are good investments.
