New tags for stories

Nikki C
While I know that it's a huge undertaking for Jared (get some interns), I think that we should start adding new tags to dates. "Sketchy emails," "Written by a guy," and "Written by a girl" just aren't cutting it anymore.

Some tags I propose:

- "A Bad Case of the Rapes"
- "Carnivores vs Vegetarians"
- "Dodged a Bullet"
- "Fat Bitch"
- "You Just Got Ditched"

What else can we come up with?

I don't know what sort of stories would qualify for that, considering I comment on a significant percentage of them. :P hater

I'm definitely open for considering new tags, as long as they're ones that can apply to a broad swath of stories.

I think the first tag I suggested would apply to a broad number of our stories. Hell, we have a bcotr today (recently?) that we could tag. And think of all the other times this has come up. The vegetarian conflict tag might also work, as there's always some carnivore dripping beef juices into someone's salad.

"Happy Endings"
and not the kind you get in massage parlors...the ones where people get married.
You could also do "Happy Endings:0" though, I suppose

Jared!!! I love the new tag: "Cute Stories (:" Thanks for adding it! Gives all of us easy access to the non-traumatic stories that have been posted on here.

Jared, please do listen to the masses and add more tags. It will make navigating the site far more enjoyable and streamlined, and also give you (and us, if you let us vote on them) more ways to be snarky with the tag naming. ABCotD is growing too big to only have 4 ambiguous tags, two of which are more broad categories than tags.

Speaking of, I really think "Written by a Guy/Girl" should be changed to "Submitted by a Guy/Girl". Otherwise it can be confusing if the submission is of an email written by the other sex.

I like the suggestions for:
- "A Bad Case of the Rapes" (though honestly this one can be renamed to suit more stories)
- "Carnivores vs Vegetarians"
- "Dodged a Bullet"
- "You Just Got Ditched"

But there are some other common topics we can think of tag names for:
- Dates who act disproportionately crazy (teacup girl, flaming poo bag guy, spirit animals, hunting for aliens)
- Sketchy behavior (stealing, vandalism, any sort of criminal activity, the guy who tried unloading all the computer parts at his date's house)
- People in their own little world of logic
- Religious nuts
- Dates who want the OP to play by THEIR rules (the three folders, the girl who wanted her dates to compete for her)
- Dorm stories
- Situations where the police were, or should have been, called

Ari -

Thanks for the suggestions.  The thing is, it's a little tough to make a tag such as "dodged a bullet," or "you just got ditched," because from at least one person's point of view on every date, those phrases are applicable.  If I'm going to add any new tags, it will be for unambiguously different stories that stand out from the crowd, such as cheery stories.

Where would I draw the line on dates who act disproportionally crazy?  What makes one person crazier than another?  Same with sketchy behavior, people in their own worlds of logic, and situations where the police "should" have been called.  These would come down to my own personal opinion, not likely shared by everyone, and with good reason.

I'm open to suggestions on how to improve the site, be it through tags or otherwise.  Enough people clamored for a cheery tag, and it made sense to me.  If you have other ideas, then I'd be glad to hear 'em.

Something I've thought about was stealing an idea from LiveJournal. (Did I mention this already?) You could create a calendar for the archives; each year would be divided by month, which would be presented as a standard calendar page. Then you'd insert a number of how many entries there were that day. The number would link to a page with just that day's entries.

Wow, that's a lot of "written by a girl" tagged stories.

Firstly, as a simple person, I LOVE how when you change the filter, the squares move. Impressive.

Secondly, I love that the hover text tells you how many comments there are. That's lovely.

Good job, sir.

I can think of quite a few for the section "The OP obviously sucks in this one", even if JMG tries valiantly to defend them all.
Blow-job-for-a-ride-home-girl can be its mascot.

Maybe a voting system so people can vote whether the story gets sent to this dunce corner of abcotd? Could be fun.
Pearl Harbor sucked. And I miss you.

May I put my vote in for a "You Just Got Ditched" tag, or what I like to say, "Quirky Ways to End a Date Fast"?  Especially after reading "A Glad Face of the Plates."  I agree it may be a little bit of judgment on your part, but most of these are pretty obvious when the OP was painfully not jiving with his/her date and then hilarity ensued.

I like the idea of separating them out between ones that make it to the date and those that don't.  Some dates end before they really even begin, and that's more of an objective call.  I have to find an ABCotD intern willing to comb the archives.  And do a few other things.
